Stockton, CA Councilwoman gets key post with statewide group

In September Stockton Councilwoman Kathy Miller is expected to take a lead role in the League of California Cities, an educational and advocacy coalition of 481 large and small cities.

At a recent league meeting, Miller, a second-term Stockton City Council member, was ratified as second vice president. Once ratified next year, she'll be first vice president and after that would be in line for the league's presidency.

Miller has said that she will run in June of next year for a seat on the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors. If she wins, she will leave the City Council midterm and give up her place in the league's rotation.

This role in the league's leadership gives Stockton a seat at the table shaping policy, Miller said.

"We have a really unique perspective on unique issues of the day," she said, mentioning municipal finances, pension reform and water. "There's tremendous value there in sharing that with other cities in California."
