Delta Hosts SkillsUSA Regional Competition, Feb. 1

For the 4th year in a row, San Joaquin Delta College will host the SkillsUSA Region 5 Competition on Saturday, February 1. The proceedings start at 9 a.m. in Atherton Auditorium, with the day’s competitions taking place throughout the campus.

Delta College's Board of Trustees elected Taj M. Khan as its new president for 2013-14 at its Dec. 17 meeting. Mr. Khan assumed his duties as board president immediately after the vote, replacing Lisa Turner, who served out her one-year term as president.

Stockton Athena Awards honors educator; attorney

San Joaquin Delta College President Kathy Hart and attorney Monica Streeter were honored this afternoon at the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce 27th Annual Athena Awards luncheon.

Streeter received the Young Professional Leadership award initiated in 2009 to recognize emerging leaders and role models for young women professionally and personally.

Hart, pictured with Stockton City Councilman Moses Zapien, was described by past Athena Award recipient Judith Chambers as a  "person dedicated to education and community involvement."

The Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce announced that Delta College Superintendent/President Dr. Kathy Hart, and Stockton attorney Monica Streeter, are this year's recipients of Stockton's 2013 ATHENA Awards.


Selected by a group of their peers and past ATHENA Award winners, the award recognizes women leaders who demonstrate "personal and professional excellence, in addition to a lasting commitment to community service." Since the ATHENA Awards inception in 1982, over 6,000 recipients have been honored worldwide. “I am so honored and delighted to be in the company of so many outstanding women,” said Dr. Hart. “These women have given their time, talent and treasure to make their communities better.”

Andy Pappas opened the first Papapavlos restaurant in 1989 using recipes he and his father developed based on their Greek heritage. Now he’s on a mission to spread the word about the benefits of eating a diet rich in vegetables, fruit and lean meat, first through his restaurant and the wholesale distribution of some of his signature dishes.

Update: Missing at-risk Stockton man found

Update: Thomas Smith has been located.

Stockton Police are looking for a missing Stockton man with dementia, reported missing by Villa Marche care facility.

Thomas Smith, 81, was last seen wearing a brown shirt and brown pants, possibly khaki colored. He is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall to 5 feet 10 inches tall, between 170-180 pounds with grey salt and pepper colored hair and brown eyes.

Police say Smith may be heading in the area of south Stockton.  If located, please contact the Stockton Police Department at 209-937-8323.
