Stockton neighborhood sprayed with gunfire

STOCKTON, CA - A north Stockton neighborhood was sprayed with gunfire Monday afternoon, leaving bullet holes in homes and cars.

The violence took place on Pawnee Way, just east of Thornton Road and north of Hammer Lane.

Witnesses told police there were more than a dozen rounds fired from a passing car. Stockton police and San Joaquin County sheriff's investigators were on the scene, looking at the damage and conducting interviews. No arrests had been made as of Monday evening.

Anita Gray came to the scene after hearing her parents' home was one of those hit by gunfire.

Her parents weren't home at the time but Moore was upset at what could have happened.

"I'm very shook up. Those are my parents.  They're older people and retired, trying to live a good life. At what point do you say I'm tired of this?" questioned Gray.

Man critically-wounded in Stockton street shooting

STOCKTON, CA - One man is in critical condition after being shot in front of a residence on the 2200 block of E. Hazelton Avenue Monday afternoon, say Stockton police.

Officer Pete Smith said there was at least one gunman and possibly two involved. The individuals were on foot but beyond that, Smith said investigators have little to go on.

It wasn't immediately clear if the residence where the man was shot was his home. The man, who is in his 20s, was shot once, Smith said.

According to the preliminary police investigation, the shooting may be gang-related, Smith said. It took occurred about 4:10 p.m.

San Joaquin jail guard charged in cell phone case

STOCKTON , CA - San Joaquin County jail guard Michael McCann was arraigned Monday afternoon on allegations he gave inmates cell phones and computer information.

McCann was arrested last week at the jail where he worked.  He faces two felony charges and two misdemeanor charges.

In court Monday, McCann's attorney requested that his client be released from custody, partly because it might be dangerous for him to be behind bars.

"I believe having him in a facility is a risk because he put a lot these people behind bars," said Dan Thompson.

But Judge Franklin Stephenson set McCann's bail at $50,000.  McCann is being kept at the Stanislaus County Jail in Modesto.

McCann is 40, and has worked with the San Joaquin County Sheriffs Department for nearly 10 years.
