City accepting applications for Redevelopment Commission vacancies

STOCKTON - The City of Stockton is currently accepting applications for four vacancies on the seven-member Redevelopment Commission/Relocation Appeals Board. The vacancies are the result of the term expirations of members on March 31, 2011.

The term of office is four years and will commence upon appointment and run through March 21, 2015. All applicants must reside in Stockton and may not hold any public office or position of employment with the City of Stockton. The application deadline is March 14 at 6 p.m.

The commission serves in an advisory capacity to the Redevelopment Agency, making recommendations about urban renewal and redevelopment project areas, advises on physical plans for each project area including the selection of purchasers and developers, as well as makes recommendations for the contract of services and site improvements.

Meetings are held on the first and third Monday of each month at 5 p.m.

Central Valley Association of Realtors honors Stocktonian of the year

STOCKTON - Central Valley Association of REALTORS (CVAR) Stockton Council together with Greater Chamber of Commerce, are proud to present the 57th Annual Stocktonian of the YEAR. The event takes place Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. at Stockton Golf and Country Club, located at 3800 Country Club Boulevard. This event honors outstanding people in our community that support civic organizations and charitable causes.

Stockton resident John Quinn is this year's award recipient. Quinn is credited with a lot of charitable work including, helping Transitional Learning Center for the homeless children get money to move to a new school, gave a fire truck, worked with Hospice of San Joaquin, Asparagus festival and more. Quinn is also the president and CEO of Food 4 Less and Rancho San Miguel Stores in Stockton.

SJ Entrepreneur Challenge to award $20,000 to winner

STOCKTON - A total of $10,000 in cash and $10,000 in professional services will be awarded to the top winning entrepreneurs when the San Joaquin Angels investment group presents the second annual San Joaquin Entrepreneur Challenge business plan competition on Wednesday, March 2 and Wednesday, March 23.

Individuals or start-up companies with a great business idea are encouraged to apply to publicly compete during two nights of an American Idol style multi-round business plan competition for selection as the most persuasive business case. Audience and judges will select two finalists eligible for the cash prizes and an opportunity for further discussion with potential investors and advisors.

The March 2 and March 23 events will be held from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the Stockton Golf & Country Club, 3800 West Country Club Boulevard.

Red Cross to open new Stockton office


STOCKTON - The American Red Cross will celebrate the opening of its new Stockton office located at 2453 Grand Canal Boulevard, Suite 5, on Wednesday, Jan. 19 from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.

The Capital Region Chapter of the Red Cross will host the ribbon cutting and open house. Stockton mayor Ann Johnston has been invited to attend.

"This is an exciting time to be at the American Red Cross and in this community," said Dawn Lindblom, CEO of the Capital Region Chapter.

Are Facebook Promotions Getting an Update?

Looks like new Facebook Promotions guidelines may soon be released.

According to AllFacebook, an email sent out by Facebook sales representatives outlines the new rules.  In contrast to the old guidelines where promotions needed to be explicitly approved, promotions will no longer need prior written approval from Facebook. Basically, in regards to promotions, sweepstakes and contests on Facebook:

  • They no longer require prior written Facebook approval to administer a promotion on Facebook.

  • They no longer require a minimum media spend investment to support the promotion.
